Fifteen years ago a small group of American Canadian and Mexican women got together here in los Cabos to help the less fortunate of the area. These women eventually formed a non-profit group called Liga MAC (League of Mexican, American and Canadians) in order to raise funds to help local Mexican families with serious medical issues. The fund raising activities started with simple monthly garage sales, then added in used book sales, and moved onto an annual luncheon and fashion show. When the fashion show outgrew any of the venues that Cabo had to offer at the time, the women decided to host an open air Jazz concert.
This year celebrates the 9th Annual Liga MAC Jazzfest.
It will be held on Friday March 22, 2013 on the beach in the tourist corridor; the featured band is Preservation Hall Jazz Band presented by Dakota Jazz Club!
For all you enthusiasts and newbies to jazz, this is one fun event not to be missed!
Tickets include a sit-down dinner and lots of fun dancing to take you thru the evening. There will be a live auction and typically there is a silent auction as well.
In addition to providing medical aid, the funds raised from this, their primary fundraising event, will also help put more than 450 students to school for one year (average cost per student is $250/year for uniforms, shoes and school supplies).
Liga MAC also provides a basic needs “dispensa” or food distribution program twice per month to those families in need ($80 will feed a family for about a month).
Tickets are $150/person and will go on sale in February.
You can buy them online, at the Liga MAC Bookstore, and the Saturday Organic Market Booth.
